Under Construction for 2026 season
A: NICA stands for the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. It’s a nationwide youth mountain bike league that empowers middle and high school students to participate in cross-country racing in a safe, fun, and competitive environment.
A: Any 6th–12th grade student in Florida can join a NICA team — whether they attend public, private, charter, or homeschool programs. No previous riding or racing experience is needed!
A:
Pre-Season: September-January (skills clinics, trail rides, recruiting)
Official Season: January – March
Races: 5 races held across Florida, typically from January to March
A: Riders need a mountain bike in safe working condition, a properly fitted helmet, closed-toe shoes, and a hydration pack or water bottles. Teams and coaches can help guide families on gear choices and budget-friendly options.
A: Yes! NICA events and practices are designed for all skill levels — from brand-new riders to experienced racers. Athletes are grouped and coached based on ability, not just age or grade.
A: No. Racing is encouraged but not required. Many student-athletes join for fitness, friendship, and fun trail rides.
A: Practice locations vary by team but often include local parks and trail systems. For example, Panther Composite practices at Vista View Park, Markham Park, and sometimes the Brian Piccolo Velodrome for skill sessions.
A: Yes. NICA places a major emphasis on safety and positive coaching. All coaches are trained and certified through NICA, and every ride follows strict protocols to ensure athlete well-being.
